Karakuri-chan & Karakuri-maru Set — Chibi Clockwork Avatars | VRChat (PC + Quest)
AI-Generated base (Created with Hi3D). The base 3D shapes were generated by AI; bones, expressions, PhysBones, hands and the Unity setup were added on top. See "How this was made" below.
A set of two clockwork dolls from Karakuri Komono: Karakuri-chan (a doll girl) and Karakuri-maru (a robot).
Both are chibi avatars about 1.20 m tall with a propeller on the head that spins from the menu. They share the same size and setup, so they look right side by side in photos.
The set costs 6 USD less than buying both separately.
What's in the set
- Karakuri-chan: an ivory body, a deep red apron and brass ear pieces. 22 expressions. PC and Quest
- Karakuri-maru: ivory and brass, with a kasa (a Japanese conical hat) topped by a propeller, glowing lens eyes and gears behind a window in the chest. 20 expressions. PC and Quest
Common features
- Expressions from 8 hand gestures and a 3-page menu; blinking and lip sync (15 visemes)
- A spinning propeller on the head (menu, saved)
- PhysBones (Karakuri-chan: hair panels, tassels, skirt, aprons / Karakuri-maru: ear ornament balls, kusazuri, waist cords)
- Mechanical doll hands with finger bones (the fingers follow VRChat's 7 hand gestures)
- Performance rank: PC Good / Quest Medium (both avatars)
- Japanese-menu and English-menu (_EN) prefabs. The menu is installed with Modular Avatar
What's included
- Karakuri-chan_v1.0.unitypackage + manual and Terms of Use in English and Japanese
- Karakuri-maru_v1.0.unitypackage + manual and Terms of Use in English and Japanese
(The same files as the single-avatar products. They import into Assets/KarakuriAvatar/a008/ and a009/)
Requirements (tested versions)
- Unity 2022.3.22f1 (an avatar project made with VRChat Creator Companion)
- VRChat SDK - Avatars 3.10.5
- lilToon 2.3.4 (PC version)
- Modular Avatar 1.18.7 (required; it installs the menu)
Please note
- Lip sync stops during the expressions that cover the mouth with a drawn mouth (16 for Karakuri-chan, 15 for Karakuri-maru). With no gesture the mouth moves when you talk
- The eyes are drawn, so there is no eye look. Automatic blinking works only in the expressions that keep the normal eyes
- In the Fist gesture the thumb does not fold over the fingers (VRChat's standard hand pose)
- They are built close to the rank limits, so adding accessories may lower the rank
- Outfits from other creators are not compatible (the body shapes are original)
- Expressions, menu, PhysBones and the propeller work inside VRChat (or in a tool that emulates avatars), not just by placing the prefab in Unity
- See each avatar's own product page and the included manuals for the detailed notes. Quest hardware and iOS have not been tested
Terms of use (summary)
- You may: upload them to VRChat and similar services as your own avatars (PC and Quest; please upload them as Private), edit them, use them in streams, videos and photos (including monetization), and make and sell outfits or edit parts for them that do not contain any of the avatars' data.
- You may not: redistribute or share the data (including edited data), publish them as public avatars, use them for sexual or violent content, or use them to train AI.
- Both are chibi dolls that can look like children. Whether edited or not, public or private, they may never be used in a sexual context.
- Full text: the included Terms of Use files (the Japanese original takes precedence; the terms are the same for both).
Also on BOOTH
These avatars are also sold on BOOTH, the Japanese marketplace.
How this was made (AI-Generated base, AI-Assisted setup)
The base 3D shapes of both avatars (the shape and colors of the bodies, faces, clothes and kasa) were generated with Hi3D, an AI that makes 3D models from images (Created with Hi3D). The source pictures were also made by the shop owner with an AI image generator.
On top of them we added the bones (including fingers), expressions, PhysBones, mechanical doll hands, the spinning propellers, the Quest versions and the Unity setup. These were made with Blender, Unity and Python scripts written by AI, and the manuals and listing texts were also written by AI. The shop owner (a person) chose the designs and reviewed how they look.
