New Year Games Together | Karuta, Fukuwarai, Hanetsuki & Kakizome with CPU for VRChat

Produktbeschreibung

Four Japanese New Year games for your VRChat world: Hyakunin Isshu karuta (scatter grab and Bouzu mekuri), Fukuwarai, Hanetsuki and Kakizome, together in a New Year hall with kadomatsu and kagami mochi. CPU players join karuta, fukuwarai and hanetsuki so one player can start right away, the cards, face parts, shuttlecock and brush strokes look the same on everyone's screen, and every screen follows each player's language, English or Japanese.

Highlights

  • Four games, one hall. One prefab places the four games with the kadomatsu, the kagami mochi and a red-and-white curtain. Each game also comes as its own prefab, and the decorations as one more.
  • Play solo with CPUs. Karuta seats up to 6 (CPUs take the free cushions), fukuwarai is played in turns (CPUs after the people), hanetsuki is for 2 (a CPU takes an empty side). Three CPU levels.
  • Karuta read aloud. A reader's voice reads the opening poem and all 100 poems, upper and lower verses (202 clips). The lower verse is shown in the same letters as the cards, or switch to subtitles only.
  • 20 to 100 cards. A colour set of 20 (pink, blue, yellow, green or orange), a random 20, 50, or all 100.
  • Touch to take. On desktop and mobile, point at a card and click; in VR, touch it with a fingertip. Who was first is decided by the server clock.
  • Fukuwarai, blindfolded. Place six face parts without seeing, then take off the blindfold: "Ta-da!" and a likeness score from 0 to 100. Three faces: Otafuku, Hyottoko and Daruma.
  • Hanetsuki with ink. Hit with a key or a click, or swing the paddle in VR. Miss and ink is drawn on your face for everyone else to see.
  • Kakizome with a brush. Hold the brush in VR or click on desktop to write. Twelve themes are scored against a model (Gold, Silver, Bronze or Merit), and up to six works hang on the wall.
  • Your own screen. Only the players see what to do now and their buttons (desktop, mobile and VR). Keyboard controls work too.
  • Late joiners see the same game, and 28 sound effects play throughout.

The four games

  • Hyakunin Isshu karuta (up to 6): around a kotatsu, touch the card of the poem being read before the others in scatter grab, or turn the reading cards one by one in Bouzu mekuri (nobles, monks, princesses and Semimaru). Faults, skipping the upper verse, card facing and the opening poem can be chosen.
  • Fukuwarai (one at a time): blindfolded, place the brows, eyes, nose and mouth on the face board. When the blindfold comes off, see the likeness score and a comment. Rounds with two or more players end with the Best likeness and Funniest face prizes.
  • Hanetsuki (2): hit the shuttlecock across a red felt court. In Oibane, whoever misses gets ink on their face and loses at 3 marks (5 or 7). In Rally, count how long the two of you keep it going together. The direction you press when you hit aims at nine spots on the other side.
  • Kakizome (2 side by side): write on the paper with the brush. A theme (Dream, Fortune, Laughter, Spring, Hope, Energy, Challenge, Thanks, Friendship, Peace, New Spring, First Sunrise) is scored by how well you traced its model. Your name and the award seal go on the paper, and it can hang on the wall of works.

Settings

  • On each game's panel (changes during a game take effect from the next round). Karuta: game, cards, CPU players (0 to 5) and level, table size, faults, reading (voice and lower verse, voice only, subtitles), upper verse, card facing, opening poem, Semimaru's and the princess's rules. Fukuwarai: face (Otafuku, Hyottoko, Daruma or Any), time per part (5, 10 or 20 s), part angles, the view through the blindfold, face size, CPU players and level. Hanetsuki: game (Oibane or Rally), marks to lose, CPU level, landing ring, ink on faces. Kakizome: desk size, model, take down the works.
  • English / 日本語 switches your own view only (in the hall, all four games switch together).
  • In the Inspector: each game's starting settings and the language (automatic, Japanese or English).

Included files

  • NewYearGames_v1.0.unitypackage: the New Year hall, the four games and the decorations as prefabs, a sample scene, 202 voice clips, 28 sound effects and materials for Quest.
  • README.txt and README_EN.txt: Japanese and English setup, how to play, settings and terms.
  • NewYearGames_Blender: the editable .blend, an FBX for every prefab and the textures.

Requirements and setup

Unity 2022.3.22f1, VRChat Worlds SDK 3.8.1 or later (tested with 3.10.5) including UdonSharp, and TextMesh Pro, in a Creator Companion world project. It runs on PC (desktop and VR), Quest/Android and iOS.

  1. Import TMP Essential Resources if the project has never used TextMesh Pro.
  2. Import NewYearGames_v1.0.unitypackage.
  3. Place Assets/NewYearGames/NewYearGames.prefab (the New Year hall) on a flat floor, or one game at a time (NY_Karuta, NY_Fukuwarai, NY_Hanetsuki, NY_Kakizome). The sample scene is in Assets/NewYearGames/Sample.

Setup takes about ten minutes. The hall is about 12 m x 14 m and 2.4 m high; karuta about 4.6 m x 4.6 m, fukuwarai 4.0 m x 2.5 m, hanetsuki 4.0 m x 6.4 m, kakizome 3.7 m x 3.1 m. Move and rotate freely (do not scale; use the panels' size buttons to make them bigger).

Play, the CPU players, sync and late joining are covered by 134 automated tests. The sample scene built for Android is about 21 MB.
