Samnite tattoo decal for Origin avatars
Needs Poiyomi Toon (which is free) (Or if you have poi pro u can also use that)
Just drag and drop onto a decal slot and change the emission for glow, the color to be any you want, and the alpha for it to actually show up on your avi. (video tutorial up above ;P). Oh and it sets the textures to 2k in unity but you can just select the texture and bump it back up to 4k if you'd like the more refined detail. (WARNING! 4k textures take up a bunch of texture space for more often than not minimal improvements to quality!)
Whats Samnite?
The Samnites were an ancient people that lived on the Italian Peninsula. They existed from around the time Rome was just a buncha hills. While the Romans were part of the Latin 'group' of tribes (they spoke latin). The Samnites were Oscan (they spoke oscan). Which was kinda a central Italy hill culture between the Greeks to the south, Latins to the west and Etruscans to the north. But dont you worry 'bout all dat. The Romans and Samnites eventually came head to head and fought a few 'knockdown-dragout wars' against one another (Mike Duncan my beloved~). The Romans did eventually win and slowly wipe out their culture. But! the Samnites were some of the toughest enemies the Romans ever fought...In my professional opinion. Also! Alot of them were shepherds, hence the pictures XD.
Whats the writing on the arm?
Its Oscan! The language that the Samnites spoke. That specific word means 'Victory' and is from an inscription on a tablet dedicated to two people named Maras Staius and Lucius Decitius, You know em?
Whats the snake/ankle
Its a snake is a motif that I just saw alot while researching the artwork of the Samnites, and the dots + lines give off a mix of greek/'barbarian' vibe (and are also present in Samnite Shields/tunics). Alot of my inspiration comes from the second source down there. Pretty great stuff.
Whats on the thighs?
A Bull motif that's vaguely based on a belt buckle on page 336 of source 2. On the forehead of the bull is Samnite sun/star in the middle, which is a super prevalent symbol in Samnite shield blazons (shield art). A good depection of it is in source 3

The Samnites did use a symbol that looks like a swastika, of course they were not nazis, they lived 2,000 years prior. But regardless it is a bit shocking to see it, least for me.
